The road was blocked off at this point, which is okay with me. :) I didn't want to do any major Jeeping today. Jay took Garrett and Savanna snowboarding today and yesterday and I hope to go up and ski with Jay tomorrow. Maybe if we get an early start everyone will be sleeping in from staying up late tonight!! I hope everyone has an awesome and blessed New Year!!!!

It looked to me like the guys behind us didn't pull the bar down in front of them. Some people here are crazy!
Christmas afternoon we ate snacks with the kids and for dinner we went up to Ari and Kristen's house for a Marshal's office party. The kids had a lot of fun playing Wii with Christy's kids. The Marshal's office is kind of our little family away from home now. Kristen was so sweet to invite us up and is the nicest person in Telluride, for sure. :)
It was hard to go back to work today. My tolerance for being bored at the computer is lowering.

Today Jay took Garrett and Savanna up to snowboard. They felt confident enough after their first week of ski PE to try it without an instructor. Not me! I'm still too scared. We have "blackout" days on our limitless lesson pass during the holidays, and besides that the mountain is really crowded right now with people here on vacation. I want the whole ski run to myself to fall on. :) Today should start the busiest time for the Telluride Ski School instructors, but our instructor was up there today with no students. :( I should make him and his best friend Googleable. If you ever come up to ski in Telluride, ask for Shai Walker or his friend Adam Nugent. They are from New York and Jay and I have told them they really need to stay here past the winter so they can see what Telluride is like in the summer. I'm totally enjoying learning how to ski, but I'm anxious for July to get here so we can get the Jeep up on the trails!
Tomorrow is Christmas Eve and we just have plans to drive to Montrose and stock up on groceries and go to dinner at a restaurant or something. We've been skiing instead of going to Wal-Mart long enough that we have run out of everything. It should be a crazy time!

Here is a close-up picture of Lindsey Jacobellis. You might remember her winning a silver medal in the Olympics.

Today we had our second ski lesson and we had the same instructor as last week. I made some progress and I'm no longer a level I beginner! I was able to do some turns today and getting better at stopping myself. Jay went on a ski lift and went down a really long run and wore himself out. We are planning on skiing again tomorrow if we can get up there in time after Maralee's Christmas concert in the morning!

Tonight is the Christmas party at the Chief's house. Fun!! Jay works with a great group of people and I always enjoy seeing all of them. The kids are afraid they will get bored, but I told them this is really our only get-together with a group of people for the holidays.

As for the skiing experience, I'm not quite ready to even call it "fun." Man, it's a lot harder than I was expecting. Jay is doing great and using skills he learned skiing in mountain warfare training in the Marines. There were many times I really wanted to chicken out and go home, but I kept pushing myself and we plan to go back tomorrow. By the way, we didn't even use a lift of any kind. There was a small area available, but our instructor wanted us to learn how to move around uphill and down. Above is the hill I skied on today. It doesn't look very steep, but walking up it in skis really sucked!

Aw, we killed it!! :( Actually, it helps the national forests for people to cut down Christmas trees because it thins the forest out to make room for more trees to grow.

Girl Day!!! We have a tradition of sometime around Thanksgiving of having girl day. Savanna, Maralee and I would normally go to the mall and to Target, out to eat lunch and to a movie. We didn't leave Telluride today because of the bad roads. We had a good lunch at The Sweet Life, then went shopping in Zia Sun and Between the Covers. We rode the gondola up to Mountain Village and had hot chocolate and a huge cookie at Colorado Tracks and watched some kids sledding. We have a couple of really cool sleds for the kids, but I didn't think to prepare for that today.
We really liked these cute Christmas trees at The Sweet Life. One of our neighbors is the cook, and I'm pretty sure he gave us a larger than normal serving of the famous Fring-a-Ling-a-Ding-Dong, which is a combination of onion rings, curly, straight cut and waffle fries. Jay called me while I was taking this picture and said, "Do not get out and drive!" I said, "Too late!" The Jeep Cherokee does really great in the snow, though, and I didn't slip at all. We do have a 2008 Jeep Unlimited Rubicon on the way, but we might just keep the Cherokee, too, since does so great in the snow.

It really is too bad I didn't get a decent picture of Savanna in her school play last night. The fifth grade did "The Twelfth Night" by Shakespeare. They had pretty elaborate costumes and sets for a school play, and the kids were all really great actors. Savanna was one of the four announcers that sat on the side of the stage and they were dressed in sort of servant type dresses. In the program, the students wrote a short bio about themselves and I had to share it because Savanna's was so cute and funny.
Savanna Wilson (Announcer 4)
Savanna is the best announcer in the galaxy. She helps explain any hard parts in the play. She crushes the other people in band with her fabulous trombone skills. She rocks at skateboarding. She will make the crowd roar when she comes up on stage. Savanna is an awesome announcer.
I think Savanna is very creative and might even have somewhat of a big head!!! :)
