Newspaper Rock

Newspaper Rock is in Utah right on the side of highway 211, about 25 miles before the entrance to the Needles District of Canyonlands National Park. I've never seen so many petroglyphs in one place, over 200 square feet!
Here you can see the ugly fence there to protect the wall. It makes it all seem a little fake, but obviously the fence is necessary so people won't touch it.

I camped here many years ago, Lisa. We saw a big Bullsnake right at the petroglyphs. What I remember vividly is that my friend's tent flap zipper didn't work. I worried most of the night about that snake!

I am fascinated by petroglyphs and these are amazing. They were one of my favorite things when we visited the Petrified Forest National Park and the Painted Desert in Arizona a few years ago. It's fun to imagine what the people who created them were like all those years ago!
