She was trying really hard to smile. Maralee is still scared of fire and doesn't like a candle burning near her face. She wanted this candle so she wouldn't have to be scared of 9 lit candles! Maralee has wanted a camera for a long time, so we bought a reasonably priced hot pink camera for her. Maybe some of her photos will end up on my blog after she has some practice with it.

Since Jay and Rick have had the same days off for a few weeks, it's been nice to have someone to ski with and take turns taking pictures. Usually Jay and I ski and if he wants to do something harder we go our separate ways for a bit. Rick took this photo of us at the top of lift 6 on See Forever.

We had some excellent ski days this week and some incredibly nice weather. What better way to start off the day than with a view like this of Wilson Peak! The ski run right under it is Sundance and lift 5 is way down below. The lift 5 area has all kinds of fun runs. I can ski something I'm comfortable with and Jay can still get into some moguls.
I really didn't plan on ever skiing Polar Queen again after Jay and I had a Princess Bride-esque fall last year, but I was feeling braver and skied Polar Queen once again and several other blue runs I had been avoiding. I love the view of Mountain Village clustered below.
I had never even been on lift 6 before. I decided to go up it and ski See Forever as the last run of the day.
Savanna didn't ski with us this week, but I did get a couple of photos with Garrett and Maralee.
Rick zoomed in and got an action shot of Jay. Usually Jay skies by us so fast it's hard to get a photo of him.

We lost the oldest restaurant in town to a fire here last night, Baked in Telluride. It only seems fitting to blog about it since I'm sure most of my restaurant calories in Telluride were consumed here. The front porch is the only thing remaining. I'm sure rebuilding will begin as soon as possible, but it is still sad to lose an old place like this. I took this photo at lunchtime and the firemen were still having to keep water on it because the flames would start up again. Jay has been outside on the scene all day with his patrol car parked at the corner. Thank goodness no one was hurt and our fire department was able to keep surrounding structures from burning. Our fire department is completely made up of volunteers, and they do an outstanding job. The fire filled the valley so much this morning that San Miguel County put out a WENS alert.
This photo of me and Maralee was taken in January 2007. When Jay was being interviewed and testing at the Marshal's Department, the kids and I spent quite a bit of the day at BIT. Maralee was planning on their cupcakes for her birthday in a couple of weeks.

It's sad news but good news that Stickers was relocated yesterday. I wish Garrett and Maralee had been able to see him. I was planning on taking Maralee up there Sunday, and then she didn't want to ski that day. This is what happens when a porcupine becomes famous, I guess. The Woods Lake area will be a wonderful new home for him, but Stickers will be greatly missed. You can read the news article at TheDenverChannel.com.

It makes more sense that the porcupine's name is Stickers! There are a bunch of people that have been calling him Snickers on-line and on the mountain, and I was one of them up until Monday. Apparently he might even be a she. He has bitten a few fingers while begging for a handout, and at lift 12 they have signs of caution of him biting and to please not feed him. Denver Channel 7 news contacted me via e-mail asking permission to use my photos for a story on Monday, but I was out skiing and I'm not sure if I got back to them in time. Since we don't have cable or satellite anymore, we didn't get to watch the news to see if they used any of my photos.
