There are five Ptarmigan Lakes in Colorado, but this one is at the highest elevation at 12,939 feet above sea level, just below the summit of Imogene Pass on the Ouray County side. We finally took the time to walk down to the lake yesterday.
The gate to this little road to the lake is usually closed and locked, but hiking is allowed. There were some guys working at the lake, must have been working for the county, and they had plowed through the snow to get there.
We saw a few spiders running around in the snow. Garrett thought they were cool, but I think that's just wrong.
The miners apparently dumped their trash in this area. There were rusted cans scattered all around.
Outside of Sneffels and Potosi Peak, I usually can't name all of the mountains in the area, but I did spot Wetterhorn, Matterhorn and Uncompahgre Peaks.
That's Garrett ahead of us hiking back up to the Jeep. Garrett is about 6 feet tall now, so you can imagine how tall that wall of snow is.
