Birthdays, Good-Byes and School

This month Savanna turned 15!!
Garrett turned 18!!
On Garrett's 18th birthday last Saturday he worked his last shift at the Nugget Theatre. He had worked there almost five years.  Leaving for Marine Corps boot camp next week!

Maralee's first day of 6th grade.
Savanna's first day of 10th grade!! They have all three been growing so fast!

Hanging Lake

We were able to do yet another lake hike during our Glenwood Springs trip.  Hanging Lake is a very popular hike.  We were there on a Thursday and were surprised at the number of people on the trail.  Most of the time when we hike around Telluride, we hardly see any people, so this was a different experience for us.  The trail head is less than 10 miles east of Glenwood Springs off I-70's Hanging Lake exit.  The hike is only 2 miles round trip, but has an elevation gain of 1,000 feet.  Much of the trail is steep and rocky like the above photo.
Hanging Lake has a fragile ecosystem and people should stay on the boardwalk and not touch the water.  There are also trout in the lake, but no fishing is allowed.
Jay, Garrett and Savanna hiked up and over to the top of Hanging Lake and can be seen in the above photo if you look closely, and zoomed in for the photo below.
Spouting Rock is a cool thing to see, just off of the trail before you get to Hanging Lake, a little steep to get to but short.

Fun in Glenwood Springs

Earlier this month we took a short trip to Glenwood Springs. We have to leave Telluride to go to places that have such things as hot springs with huge water slides and parks with rides.  Glenwood is a fun place for families.
We had a day pass to Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park. Everyone loved the Giant Canyon Swing.

I liked the Alpine Coaster and the Cliffhanger Roller Coaster, but my favorite thing at the park was the Fairy Caves tour.
