Starbucks...What??

Sometimes rumors end up being true.  Rumors have been flying for quite awhile that a Starbucks would open in Mountain Village.  It became a reality and the soft opening was this weekend, grand opening today.

Obviously, they don't need free advertising on my blog, but sometimes Savanna and I take pleasure in the little things in life, like mocha cookie crumble fraps.

Savanna and I were inside during the official ribbon cutting ceremony.  The Starbucks is located in the Hotel Madeline, and as you can see, they really did it up nice.  We know a few people working there this summer.

Supermoon Weekend

This weekend was my first real attempt to photograph the moon.  The photo above was taken Saturday at 10:22 p.m., and the one below was taken tonight at 10:36 p.m.  I really wanted to take a twilight moonrise photo, but we couldn't see the moon over the mountains for a long time tonight.

People Watching

With more people here than ever for the 40th Telluride Bluegrass Festival, it was a good opportunity to just watch what other people were doing.

Just to be fair, here are some pictures of me and the girls, too.

The 40th Telluride Bluegrass Festival

I spent Thursday at the first day of the 40th Telluride Bluegrass Festival.  More people are at the festival than ever before due to Planet Bluegrass being allowed to sell 1,000 more passes than usual.  There are well over 11,000 daily in the festival after counting ticket buyers, children, volunteers and Planet Bluegrass employees.  The weather has been warm, sunny, and a bit too windy at times, but overall a great festival.  Pictured above is the group Elephant Revival.

The Milk Carton Kids.

Greensky Bluegrass.

Emmylou Harris and Rodney Crowell.

The reason I chose to go to the festival on Thursday was for Mumford and Sons, but due to their bass player Ted Dwayne's blood clot in his brain, they have had to cancel their summer tour, much to the sadness of Thursday night ticket holders.  We had a few days of wondering who they would get to take their place, and I have to say I was happy that Steve Martin and Edie Brickell were able to join the Steep Canyon Rangers, who were already scheduled to have a day set on Thursday.

Steve Martin and Edie Brickell have a new album out this year, full of good music and fun and sweet songs.  Edie makes me remember being a teen in the late 80's when she was with the New Bohemians singing What I Am.

Steve Martin played about 5 ot 6 different banjos during their 1-1/2 hour show.  He is an amazing musician, and he mixed in a lot of humor before every song.  It was great fun time!

Day Two ~ Telluride 30th Annual Balloon Festival

This morning I'm guessing the wind was too still or barely blowing in the wrong direction for the balloons to fly.  Only four inflated in the park, but they did give tethered rides.  I wanted to try a different spot this time, so I stayed around the San Miguel River and the beaver pond and played with my camera.

The weather continued to cooperate last night for the balloons to inflate at night for a glow show!
